City Council to meet Tuesday on GetAbout Columbia projects

Friday, July 18, 2008 | 8:07 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — The City Council will hold a special meeting to discuss GetAbout Columbia’s infrastructure projects on Tuesday, the Public Works Department announced Friday.

The public hearing will begin at 6 p.m. and take place in the Council Chambers on the fourth floor of the Daniel Boone Building, 701 E. Broadway.

The meeting is meant to give the public an opportunity to be heard in determining the priorities for GetAbout Columbia infrastructure projects. City staff will provide a briefing on the status of the projects before opening up the session for public comment. The council will then determine which projects will be funded by the GetAbout Columbia funds.

GetAbout Columbia is a community-wide project designed to encourage the use of active modes of transportation or travel as an alternative to motorized transport. Funding for GetAbout Columbia is provided by the Federal Highway Administration’s Non-Motorized Transportation Pilot Program. The funds are earmarked for infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects.

For more information about the public hearing, contact the Public Works Department at 874-7250 or visit the project Web site at getaboutcolumbia.com.
