COLUMBIA — A man was charged with three counts of second-degree assault after a two-vehicle accident early Friday.

The car accident occurred near the intersection of Paris Road and Clark Lane at about 1 a.m. Police said Ryan L. Barlow, 26, was traveling south on Paris Road at a high speed when he struck another vehicle from behind. Both vehicles were heavily damaged and were towed from the scene.

Sherita Boone, 21, the driver of the second car, and her passengers Shantennille Lee, 31, and Edward Brown, 28, were taken to the hospital with injuries. Two have been released and the third was still undergoing evaluation at the time the news release was issued. All three received summonses for failure to wear a seat belt, the release said.

Boone received additional summonses for failure to exhibit proof of insurance and driving without a license, the release said.

Barlow was intoxicated, wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries, the release said. He was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident, which is a felony, the release said.
