PrintCOLUMBIA — Columbia broadcast news station KOMU/Channel 8 recently received numerous awards from the Kansas City Press Club and the Missouri Broadcasters Association.
KOMU was named Television Station of the Year by the Kansas City Press Club, a local chapter of the National Society of Professional Journalists, and was awarded Gold in all categories for small market television. In winning the top award, KOMU beat two Kansas City stations, WDAF and KMBC.

The Missouri Broadcasters Association receives hundreds of entries from across the state each year for the competition.
“It is an honor for our students, reporters, producers and anchors to be recognized by both KC Press Club and the Missouri Broadcasters Association as they continue to demonstrate KOMU 8’s dedication to excellence,” said the station’s General Manager Marty Siddall in a news release.
KOMU is owned by the University of Missouri. Its newsroom is unique in that it also serves as a teaching lab for students in the School of Journalism.
