Table Rock Lake safe to swim despite flooding

KIMBERLING CITY — Table Rock Lake is safe to swim in, according to Dave Casaletto, director of the non-profit Table Rock Water Quality.

Casaletto says he has been inundated with calls in recent weeks from people wondering if the lake is polluted from recent flooding.

He has had so many calls that he called the Army Corps of Engineers, which generally tests water around its swimming beaches on the lake. But because those beaches are underwater this year, the corps didn’t perform any testing, Casaletto said.

So Casaletto collected samples from seven portions of Table Rock and brought them to the Stone County Health Department in Galena for testing.

He says the results showed that the lake is well under limits for any bacteria and is safe to swim in.
