The Kewpies track and field team qualified in four girls events and eight boys events for the MSHSAA state track and field meet at the Class 4 Camdenton sectional Saturday. Hickman’s boys team got first place finishes out of their 800- and 400-meter relay teams, Josh Harvey in the shot put, and Sam Masters in the 1600-meter race. Tucker Bounds qualified in the long jump with a second place finish, and the 200-meter relay team also qualified with a second-place finish. Matt Brumit finished third in the high jump, and Sam Masters qualified for his second event with a fourth place finish in the 3200 meters.
On the girls side, Victoria Jackson qualified for the state meet by winning the long jump. Whitney Grathwohl finished third in the 300-meter low hurdles, and Galit Rudelson finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, sending both to next weekend’s state meet. The Kewpie girls also qualified in the 400-meter relay, finishing fourth.
The MSHSAA state meet takes place May 23-24 at Dwight Reed Stadium at Lincoln University in Jefferson City.
