PrintKIRKSVILLE — A Truman State University student has been diagnosed with active tuberculosis.
The student was isolated while undergoing treatment at a hospital since last week’s diagnosis.
Tuberculosis can damage the lungs and is spread through coughing, sneezing and speaking. There are two types — latent tuberculosis, which is not a danger, and active tuberculosis, which requires treatment.
More than 200 people have been contacted by Truman State to be tested to determine if they have been exposed.
An Adair County health official told the Kirksville Daily Express that the additional testing is just a precaution.
