Princeton professor to speak Monday on American Christianity

COLUMBIA — The challenges faced by the Christian community in the U.S. as its global role continues to expand will be the topic of a free lecture at 7 p.m. Monday in Memorial Union’s Stotler Lounge.

Princeton professor and author Robert Wuthnow will discuss his research on the impact of American Christianity in relation to globalization in the inaugural Distinguished Lecture on Religious Studies.

Wuthnow has published numerous books and papers on religion and has spent the past three years conducting a national survey re-examining “the historical development of the American foreign missions movement,” according to the MU Religious Studies Web site.

He is the chair of the Department of Sociology and director of the Center for the Study of Religion at Princeton University.

The forum is sponsored by the MU Department of Religious Studies’ Rufus Monroe and Sofie Paine Endowment for Lectures in Religion, the Center on Religion and the Professions, the Center for Arts and Humanities, the MU Lectures Committee and the Department of Sociology.
