COLUMBIA — A Columbia man pleaded guilty Monday to one count of first-degree robbery in connection with a Nov. 14 carjacking at the Activity and Recreation Center.

Judge Kevin M. Crane sentenced Larry D. Patrick, 20, of 3609 Valencia Drive to five years without possibility of parole.

In the incident at the ARC, at 1701 Ash St., a 54-year-old woman, her 5-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter were approached by three men, one who had a weapon and demanded the keys to the woman’s van, the Missourian previously reported.

Patrick and 19-year-old Steven L. Young of 210 N. Fifth St., were arrested the next morning in Kansas City when police matched the license plate of the van they were driving. The suspects refused to pull over and a short pursuit took place.

The two men crashed the van and attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended by police.

Young has been charged in connection with the same incident, according to Missouri CaseNet.
