Two injured in U.S. 63 accident

COLUMBIA — Two people were injured today in a car accident on U.S. 63, according to a press release from the Columbia Police Department.

The accident occurred around 3:15 p.m. when a semitrailer driven by Bernard Elmer, 48, of Glencoe came to a required stop at the COLT railroad crossing and was hit from behind by a white Subaru driven by Pansy Cure, 67, of Columbia.

A green van, driven by Sheila Lipsey, 68, of Clinton, Ill., rear-ended Cure’s vehicle, although police are unsure whether Cure hit the semitrailer or was rear-ended by Lipsey first, causing her to rear-end Elmer’s vehicle.

Both Lipsey and Cure, both wearing seat belts, were admitted to University Hospital. At the time of the press release, both were listed in fair condition.

Elmer, who was not wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the accident and his vehicle received only minor damages. Both Lipsey and Cure’s vehicles received extensive damage.
