The 2008 Show-Me State Games (SMSG) will expand by inviting competitors from 13 other states to the final weekend of competition, Aug. 1-3. The weekend will officially be known as the State Games of Mid-America (SGMA) according to a press release on the SMSG website, www.smsg.org.
The State Games of Mid-America will be an Olympic-style sports festival held every two years, on even years since the State Games of America are held on odd years.
“We feel confident in the SMSG ability to run a 1st class event,” Dave Mlnarik, Executive Director of the Cornhusker State Games in Nebraska said. “We feel it will strengthen the overall reputation of the State Games as a whole.”
The SGMA will host athletes from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wisconsin.
