No. 6 Missouri baseball team beats Michigan State

Some losses hurt more than others. But, as the Tigers baseball team found out on Saturday, so do some wins.

En route to a 14-9 victory against Michigan State (1-1), Missouri batters were hit by six pitches and drew 10 walks in a game characterized by the Spartans’ pitchers’ inability to find the strike zone.

Despite being out-hit in the three-hour-and-46-minute marathon, the Tigers (2-0) remained perfect in the early going, and Ryan Gargano was credited with his first victory in relief of starter Rick Zagone, who allowed three runs in four innings.

When he wasn’t being pelted, senior designated hitter Jacob Priday led the Missouri offense by going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored out of the cleanup spot, and sophomore infielder Greg Folgia helped atone for his two costly errors with two hits – including his first career triple – and three RBIs of his own.

Sophomore Kyle Gibson is scheduled to face host-team Stetson at 3 p.m. on Sunday in DeLand, Florida.
