NORTHWOODS — Mayors in St. Louis County are among those raising funds to help a Kirkwood official recently wounded at his City Hall.

Mayors Everett Thomas of Northwoods and Clarence King of Beverly Hills were among those seeking donations from the public Saturday. They and other volunteers wanted to collect $4,000 to help Mayor Mike Swoboda and his family. They hoped to send a message of support to Kirkwood.

Swoboda was shot twice in the head in a Feb. 7 shooting rampage. Charles Lee “Cookie” Thornton killed three city officials and two policemen before being shot and killed by police.

Swoboda remains hospitalized in serious condition. Kirkwood is also conducting several fundraising efforts to help victims’ families.
