I am in seventh grade, and I support Columbia’s smoking ban because smoking can give you lung cancer. If other people breathe in the smoke from the cigarette, it could give them the same effect just from breathing it into their lungs. When I was in the second grade at Lee Elementary School, I saw real lungs from people who had smoked, and they didn’t look pretty. They were all black and ashy like they had been blackened with coal dust, but they were actually covered in smoke from the cigarette. They were also increased in size from smoking so much. Smoking can also lead to other diseases, such as heart failure. Some people who smoke often smell like the product they are smoking. They are just killing themselves faster if they are smoking. It is also like a drug — you can never stop because it is a really strong addiction, just like becoming obese from eating McDonald’s. You can see the movie “Super Size Me” for more on that.
