COLUMBIA — Columbia firefighters extinguished a house fire in north-central Columbia early Saturday morning.

Firefighters were called just after 2 a.m. to a report of smoke coming from a house at 410 N. Fifth St., a Columbia Fire Department news relese said.

Personnel who first arrived on the scene reported heavy smoke and fire from the roof and aggressively tried to attack the fire inside. The structure was not occupied and no injuries were reported, the release said.

Fire investigators worked the scene, but have not found where the fire started or what caused it.

The home was reported to be valued at around $65,000 and fire officials estimate damage to the structure at around $45,000.
