June Ann Wade

June Ann Wade of Columbia will be remembered for giving love, encouragement, life lessons and support to her friends and family. She also stressed persistence.
“She always told me ‘Don’t let anybody turn you around; you’ve come too far to turn back now,’” said Kimberly Marmon, one of Ms. Wade’s goddaughters.
Ms. Wade died Wednesday, June 18, 2008. She was 62. She was born on June 19, 1945, in St. Louis to Grady Wade Jr. and Deloris Richardson Wade. She was the oldest of six children.
Marmon said Ms. Wade was like a second mother to her. She kept a scrapbook with pictures and mementoes from Marmon’s life and frequently gave lessons on cooking, which Ms. Wade considered a ‘labor of love’.
“She’d prepare all my favorite meals at get-togethers,” Marmon said. “I always looked forward to her chocolate pies and fried chicken.”
Faith played an important role in Ms. Wade’s life, and she became a Christian at an early age. Ms. Wade attended Second Baptist Church in Columbia.
“She was always excited to talk to me about God and Scriptures,” Marmon said.
Ms. Wade graduated from Sumner High School in 1964 and later attended Sanford Brown College where she received certification in business and accounting. She worked for the Community Workshop, part of Central Missouri Subcontracting Enterprises, as a computer repair technician and was affectionately referred to as “Granny” by her co-workers.
Ms. Wade is survived by a son, Michael Reaves of Columbia; her mother of St. Louis; three sisters, Cheryl Wade-Coleman and Helen Marmon, both of Columbia, and Elaine Smith of St. Louis; a brother, Daniel Foster of St. Louis; grandson D’Rquez Jennings of Columbia; goddaughters Shawnie Hatton of Richmond, Va. and Kimberly Marmon of Columbia; and many nieces and nephews.
Her father, a brother and a sister died earlier.
Services were held at 6 p.m. Monday at CenterPoint Church, 1900 N. Providence Road.
